SKEPTICS AND
SPOOFS
Below are some
sources that present skeptical (or as we say in the UK sceptical)
points of view on various conspiracy theories. At the close
are some spoof sites.
- Critical
Thinkers.org
Kent Jeffreys originally hosted roswell.org,
a website hosting his views that he believed in a crash
at Roswell, and a major element of his endeavours was
the Roswell Declaration and petition. However, in 1997,
Jeffrey recanted and declared the Roswell Incident a myth.
In 2007 he relaunched the site as CriticalThinkers.org,
looking to expose myths and hoaxes.
- CSICOP
Homepage
(Committee for the Scientific Investigation of
Claims of the Paranormal), the publishers of The Skeptical
Inquirer. Provides good all round information on the skeptic
point of view.
-
Jim Lippard
Site lists lots of skeptical sources homepages,
organisations, on-line magazines, etc. Has an excellent
subject index of links to skeptic information, including
material on cults, Scientology, and creationism, and lots
of excellent links to other skeptics.
-
Royston Paynter's Skeptical Page
Devoted to rebutting UFO claims. Includes some
good essays on Roswell, abductions, MJ-12, ancient astronauts,
etc, as well as the authors own commentaries on
the subject. Has a very good set of links to other skeptical
pages, particularly UFO-oriented. Well worth a visit,
but rather old-fashioned and some problems with out-dated
links.
- Skeptic
Magazine, produced by the Skeptics Society
The Skeptics Society is a scientific and educational
organization of scholars, scientists, historians, magicians,
professors and teachers, and anyone curious about controversial
ideas, extraordinary claims, revolutionary ideas, and
the promotion of science. Our mission is to serve as an
educational tool for those seeking clarification and viewpoints
on those controversial ideas and claims.
- The
Skeptics Dictionary
Run by Professor Robert Carroll of Sacramento City College,
and is an excellent source for skeptical information.
It contains an index to materials, bibliography, and search
engine. A great place to locate skeptic points of view
on UFOs, alternative medicine, the paranormal, etc.
- The
Skeptic Tank (aka Silly UFO Nonsense).
This is a huge archive site, containing files on a vast
array of UFO and UFO related mythology. You select the
files and they are mailed to you. An excellent source
for details of the in-fighting among US UFO groups too.
(Not updated since 2002)
- The
Telson Spur: Pseudoscience
Links to on-line resources for the study of intellectual
deceit, which is pseudoscience in retrospect.
