We interpret the term 'conspiracy' broadly, including in our brief conspiracy theories from the Right and the Left, ranging from those concerning UFOs to the 'New World Order,' from those speculating about the death of Princess Diana to 9/11, whether disseminated by traditional pamphlet or electronic Internet. This breadth is itself an index of our view that conspiracy thinking has become a cultural reflex, by which the information overload and plethora of meaning in a post-modern and globalised world is rendered into satisfying and apparently sense-making structures.
