Texts for weeks 2 and 3

 

Nietzsche

 

The main text we will be drawing on is called Twilight of the Idols, there are several translations of this text and we recommend that you purchase one of the following three.

 

The first is the translation by Kaufmann and comes in a volume called The Portable Nietzsche. This has more in it than just Twilight, and offers a good all round introduction to Nietzsche. Most notably, it has a full translation of Nietzsche’s classic piece, Thus Spake Zarathustra. Its ISBN is 0140150625.  It costs £8.74 on Amazon and £8.73 from the Book Depository.

 

 

 

The Portable Nietzsche (Viking Portable Library)

 

The second translation is by Hollingdale and published by Penguin. Its ISBN is 0140445145.  It costs £5.21 from Amazon and £5.20 from the Book Depository.

The third translation is by Large and is published by Oxford Classics. Its ISBN is 0192831380. It costs £6.99 from Amazon.

Copies of the 1989 edition are available on Amazon from £11.39.  Additional copies have been ordered for the library but there will not be enough library copies for everyone so you will need to plan ahead to ensure you have access to a copy for the essay.  There is also a 2001 edition which available at £20.00.  The page numbers in both editions will be the same – the only difference is that 2001 has the addition of an afterward.
